100th post giveaway!

It's my 100th posting on this little webspace of mine. I figured a giveaway was in order, and I happened to pick up a Neptune charm pack today, just for giving away. I have some other goodies I"ll throw in, too, but that's a surprise. I really am grateful for all of your support and feedback. Sometimes creating can be a bit lonely, but knowing there are other (mostly) women out there feeling the same way about fabric and design makes me feel good. Leave a comment on this post, telling me your favorite thing about your hometown, and I'll pick a random winner on Monday. Good luck, and thanks for reading!I've started on a long term quilt project, just for me. After seeing all the half hexagon quilts out there, I decided it was a good use for my Hello Betty charm pack. I also used an American Jane Snippets pack, and have been scouring online looking for other 1930s charms. If you have any good sources, let me know. I don't normally choose those fabrics, but looking at the quilt so far, I really like it:After all of those blasted nine-patches, I think I needed a break from squares. It's a lot of fun to play with the fabric placement on this one. Speaking of nine-patches, I have about half of the quilting done on that quilt. I decided on stippling it, but adding some loops. I also used bamboo batting for the first time, and it's amazing, like everyone says.

  1. I just love your blog and your creations:)

My favorite thing about my hometown is it is SMALL - which is good and bad. No BIG stores but as I get older (yeh a big 30 this September!) that doesn't bother me as much. I like that I can go for a visit there and go to lunch and see everyone I grew up with AND their parents! and siblings! and kids! It is nice and I appreciate it more and more every day!

I think I am going to have to start a hexagon quilt too. I love the look of hexes and the fabrics you choose to make yours with is awesome! Love it! Keep up the awesome work!

  2. My hometown is Newton, Iowa the home of Maytag. My favourite part of my hometown is the comfort of knowing my family is here.

I love the Hello Betty charm pack I got a few months back. I also dig Momma's Apron Strings. Fat Quarter shop has the Apron Strings.

  3. Happy 100th post!

My hometown is in Illinois, and one of my favorite things (appropriately) is their 4th of July celebrations. Games and races at the elementary schools in the morning, a great parade in the afternoon, and an awesome fireworks display out on the lake at night.

    *sniff*

    Wish I was there.

  4. I live in a little town of about 1000 people, or rather I live on a little farm outside of it, Fruitland Idaho. We moved here from S. California with our children almost 14 years ago. Best thing we ever did. Our town is very community orientated. I go to town and it is like driving in a parade waving to everyone. Everyone talks about everyone but if anything happens to someone the people take care of them. I love where I live.

  6. Happy 100th post! Love the hex quilt - it is time we saw a "Rachael" quilt!

My favorite thing about my hometown (on Lake Ontario in NY) is this really random summertime food called Salt Potatoes. They're little white potatoes you boil in tons of salt (the salt comes with the bag of potatoes) and you eat them with drawn butter. Delish! I've never heard of the outside of CNY.

  7. I'm a small town girl too...born and raised here and raised my six children here as well. It's a safe place to live...we don't lock our doors at night or when we leave the house; we never lock our car doors either. There just isn't any crime....how long can that hold out? As long as the interstate isn't completed to our neck of the woods, I think that element will not venture here. It's laid back and neighbor friendly...I like my hometown.

  8. Hi Rachael,
I grew up in a town of 25,000 people named Red Deer Alberta Canada. The best thing about it was it was the place that I called Home. It is in the central part of the province and has lots of parks and green land. It is now about 35 years since I lived there and is a city of 85,000 people. My parents still live there, as do my siblings, so I think the best thing about it now is that is where most of my family lives. It is still a pretty prairie city and will always be special to me.
Congratulations on reaching 100 posts.Long may you enjoy quilting and blogging.Happy 4th of July to you and yours.
    Regards,
    Anna

  12. Happy 100th post! My hometown is relatively small but still quite urban. I love it because it is full of hippies and of socialites. Everyone gets along and loves each other. Plus our town is seperated into three small towns from the eras the it was built. People feel strongly about keeping the intergrity. Oh, and being from Washington, you can surf and ski and hike all in the same day. We even have a race for it. Ski to Sea!

  13. Yay for posting!!! Since it's the 4th of July weekend, my fav thing about my hometown for this particular holiday is how we all watch fireworks from the HS football field while the volunteer fire department sets them off. The first firework always generates an "ooh" from the crowd (of about 300??), the 2nd garners an "aahhh." It's the same every year, and very comical once you realize the pattern.

Its full of diversity and has some of the best people watching in the world. Nothing can beat Paris for that, but this comes pretty close :)
