Chen's block

I had a lot of fun with this block, and had barely any fabric left over:Chen sent all of the fabric except for the palest green polka dots. I'm a little sad I finished her April block in March-- though I'm pleased I'm staying on top of these. I finally finished something while it was still light outside (this was taken on my front porch), so the reason it's not lying flat is because the wind was picking up. I spent quite a bit of time paper piecing, but it was so worth it. The flowers in the log cabins seemed like an obvious choice for the fabric.

There's no way I could ever have the patience to make an entire quilt out of this one block, but that's one of the reasons why I like these virtual quilting bees: they give me an excuse to spend a lot of time making something more complicated than I would ever attempt for myself.

Mom update: She LOVES it (emphasis hers).

    Aw geez Rachael - I got Chen's fabrics last night and am working on my block today. I thought I was going to be the first one done ;) But the block is awesome, and what I'm doing will fit right in with yours. So maybe we'll both set the tone ;)

    OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS BLOCK!!! I can't stop staring at it. You did such a great job and you did paper piecing! Yikes! I don't have the patience for that. Thank you so much for your hard work on this block. I am so giddy with happiness right now. (You should upload it to Flickr so that everyone else can admire it too!)

    Wow - stunning! You are so talented! I agree that it is fun doing just one block with more effort than you could muster up for an entire quilt. Great job!

    Wow thats beautiful, I love paper piecing but it does take me all day to do one block, havent decided yet what 2 I am going to make. Surprise
