After the whole quilting debacle on the Carolyn quilt, I was glad to hear from my stepmother that Carolyn was in fact very surprised and pleased. So was my stepmother-- she's actually commissioning me to make a quilt for another one of her sisters, Connie, who has an October birthday. Connie also has a pretty traditional home in New Jersey, and so I need to go just barely outside my comfort zone yet again.
I've been going through Flickr and my favorite blogs looking for inspiration. Do you, loyal readers, have any brilliant ideas for a pattern or fabric line for this new quilt? Again, I don't have too much time, so I want to get started on it right away. Any thoughts and ideas will be appreciated!
Disappearing 9-patch? Or a giant log cabin? Fabric = Simple Abundance or Mill House Inn? I like Simple Abundance because there are particular prints I like in there, and then some that are a bit more traditional, just like Cotton Blossoms
ReplyDeleteThere's some nice, somewhat traditional-feeling, and rather inexpensive, lines of fabric at Connecting Threads. They do yardage as well as some fat quarter (and fat eighth) bundles. That might be an easy way to go! :-)
ReplyDeleteAs for patterns, I'd lean towards something fairly straightforward in look and construction. I like this one from Cluck Cluck Sew, or maybe even a no-triangle zig-zag?

Pinwheels are easy, and can look very different from quilt to quilt just by changing the size, fabric or arrangement. Do go with fabrics that you really love and think she will also, because it seems to make a project fly by without a snag!
ReplyDeleteI made Crazy Mom's "The Future's So Bright". It came together fast, and IMO is a nice blend of traditional and modern. The measurements are on her sight. If I was fancy and knew how to link I would. : )
